Real Men of God fear The Lord, and guard Wisdom in their hearts.
Proverbs 1:7-9 [AMP]
7 The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning and the principal and choice part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; but fools despise skillful and godly Wisdom, instruction, and discipline.
8 My son, hear the instruction of your father; reject not nor forsake the teaching of your mother.
9 For they are a [victor’s] chaplet (garland) of grace upon your head and chains and pendants [of gold worn by kings] for your neck.
Godly Men fear The Lord and they guard wisdom in their hearts.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning stages of attaining wisdom. However, Proverbs goes a step further to explain what this looks like.
In Proverbs 3:15 it states:
“Skillful and Godly Wisdom is more precious than rubies; and nothing you can wish for is to be compared to her
It’s interesting how the author of Proverbs refers to Wisdom as “her” yet we see this same comparison in the very last chapter of Proverbs.
In chapter 31 it states in verse 10:
“A capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman–who is he who can find her? She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls
She opens her mouth in skillful and Godly Wisdom and on her tongue is the law of kindness
Many daughters have done virtuously, nobly, and well, but you surpass them all. Charm and grace are deceptive and beauty is vain but a woman who reverently and worshipfully fears The Lord, she SHALL be praised.
Seeing any correlations here?
Godly women are compared to the attribute of “Wisdom.” This is not to say that Men are without Wisdom, but we are not the keepers of it. Women are typically more mature than men earlier on in life and so are called to share and teach Men (the guardians of “Truth”) the ways of wisdom so that the truth can be shared with the world under the guidance of wisdom.
It is said that in order to find the heart of a woman of God, that a man needs to be seeking the Lord to find it. Proverbs tells us that Fear of the Lord is the only way to a Godly woman’s heart. Not only that, but we are to “guard wisdom” or “guard the keepers/guardians of wisdom” in our hearts.
This means we are to treat the woman that we desire as a future wife, as someone who is to be praised above all other women (forsaking all others) and that it is our duty to guard the hearts of our sisters in Christ.
This is one way we fear the Lord. We obey when He says “love your wives” and to “outdo one another in showing honor.”
Too often men take a side or back seat when it comes to driving a relationship and this can cause a lot of pain and grief to our sisters in Christ.
Love is a choice and not a feeling that just happens over time. So when a woman of God appears, desires to share her life with a man that lives a life testifying to Christ (“The Truth”), then it is our duty to make clear our intentions or to clearly guard her heart with a “let your yes be yes and your no be no.”
Not making a decision IS making a decision to hurt and dishonor your sister in Christ.
As growing disciples in Christ it is our duty to lead in honor and to use our actions and our words to make clear how we desire to honor the women in our lives (family, friends, as a girlfriend or wife etc.) and there are no excuses for doing otherwise. The beginning of wisdom is to fear the Lord and he has called us to honor his daughters as royalty not as property.
You guard wisdom but often times you do not guard your own hearts. A man will NEVER earn the right to access your heart or to take it for himself. Scripture says that he is to guard it as the most valuable thing he will ever come across. His job is to become the chief guard of your heart so that he can hand you over to Christ, with a full, honored, and loving heart that was encouraged, taught, and upheld in the ways of the gospel. So make your man do that. If you settle for less, you are teaching men how to be “regular” men rather than “men of God.” Make them rise to the challenge because your value is FAR ABOVE RUBIES OR PEARLS. None compare to you and you are to be praised and honored for fearing the Lord.
