1 Chronicles 21:24
21 And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw him, and went out from the threshing floor and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
22 Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the site of this threshing floor, that I may build an altar on it to the Lord. You shall charge me the full price for it, that the plague may be averted from the people.
23 Ornan said to David, Take it; and let my lord the king do what is good in his eyes. I give you the oxen also for burnt offerings and the threshing sledges for wood and the wheat for the meal offering. I give it all.
24 And King David said to Ornan, No, but I will pay the full price. I will not take what is yours for the Lord, nor offer burnt offerings which cost me nothing.
25 So David gave to Ornan for the site 600 shekels of gold by weight.
[Real Men of God worship the Lord no matter what it costs]
It is very easy to thank God when all things are going well. We thank God when we find a wife, when we build a home, raise a family, and when we “have” everything given unto us. Yet do we thank God when he takes things away from us? Do we thank Him because he has such faith in us?
He challenges us to keep growing stronger in our knowledge and relationship with Him, even when it hurts.
Job 1:19-22
19 And behold, there came a great [whirlwind] from the desert, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young people and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you.
20 Then Job arose and rent his robe and shaved his head and fell down upon the ground and worshiped
21 And said, Naked (without possessions) came I [into this world] from my mother’s womb, and naked (without possessions) shall I depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed (praised and magnified in worship) be the name of the Lord!
22 In all this Job sinned not nor charged God foolishly.
[Real Men of God know that the Lord is almighty, never changes, and works for good…even when it doesn’t feel like it. They don’t blame God for misfortune, but worship Him for his mercy.]
