Happy (blessed, fortunate, enviable) is the man who finds skillful and godly Wisdom, and the man who gets understanding [drawing it forth from God’s Word and life’s experiences], For the gaining of it is better than the gaining of silver, and the profit of it better than fine gold.
–Proverbs 3:13-14 AMP
As disciples of Christ we are challenged with being passionate followers of Jesus Christ. A lukewarm pursuit of Christ is not pleasing or acceptable to the Lord.
So, because you are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of My mouth! (Revelation 3:16 AMP)
However, the problem [new] Christians face is having Passion with now Wisdom to direct it.
Consider if you were given a rocket launcher and asked to fire it at a building nearby. However, you are surrounded by a crowd of constantly moving people, had no scope on the launcher, and were told you had to keep your eyes closed. The odds of you hitting your target without taking innocent lives…is very low.
This is what Passion can look like when there is no wisdom to guide it.
Now consider that same scenario, but you were allowed to keep your eyes open and were given a scope.
Obviously the task would be much easier to accomplish and lives would not be destroyed in the process.
The reason this interesting example was chosen is that the consequences are the same when we passionately go out into the world with little to no knowledge of WHO Christ is and not just what He did. When we go out with biblical law, and forget grace and wisdom, we can unfortunately do a lot of collateral damage.
Christians are some of the biggest deterrents to Christianity due to lack of wisdom and grace. Even the disciples were warned not to pluck up the “weeds” (not to point out those that are not of Christ) because they might “uproot the good” with them. Meaning others might follow in the disciples’ example and discern incorrectly thus turning believers away from desiring truth.
But while he was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed also darnel (weeds resembling wheat) among the wheat, and went on his way. So when the plants sprouted and formed grain, the darnel (weeds) appeared also. And the servants of the owner came to him and said, Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? Then how does it have darnel shoots in it? He replied to them, An enemy has done this. The servants said to him, Then do you want us to go and weed them out? But he said, No, lest in gathering the wild wheat (weeds resembling wheat), you root up the [true] wheat along with it. (Matthew 13:25-29 AMP)
Passion without wisdom (wisdom coming from KNOWING Christ) is devoid of spiritual fruit. This is why Christ encourages us differently in the stages of our walks with Him so that we might understand what role we are to play and where our strengths truly come from.
I am writing to you, little children, because for His name’s sake your sins are forgiven [pardoned through His name and on account of confessing His name].
I am writing to you, fathers, because you have come to know (recognize, be aware of, and understand) Him Who [has existed] from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have been victorious over the wicked [one]. I write to you, boys (lads), because you have come to know (recognize and be aware) of the Father.
I write to you, fathers, because you have come to know (recognize, be conscious of, and understand) Him Who [has existed] from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong and vigorous, and the Word of God is [always] abiding in you (in your hearts), and you have been victorious over the wicked one. (1 John 2:12-14 AMP)
To break this down easier, this is what He says:
Children: Your sins are forgiven. You have come to awareness of the Father
Young men: You are strong and vigorous. The Word abides in your hearts and you have been victorious over the wicked one
Fathers: You have come to know (recognize, be aware of, and understand) Him Who [has existed] from the beginning (says this twice).
Wisdom comes in fulling understanding and knowing the Lord God and that doesn’t fully happen until we meet Him face to face. As Children we come to know Salvation. As Young followers, we have strength, passion and truth, and as “Fathers” we will come to KNOW the truth and understand HIM who has existed from the beginning.
He….is Jesus Christ.
Passion without Christ is emotion. Passion FOR Christ brings life and salvation. Therefore, let us cast the world aside and remember that He raises the humble but opposes the worldly and the proud.
Do not love or cherish the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him. (1 John 2:15 AMP)
