The Christian Mask

“Jesus Saves”
“He is for us!”
“I got a Word from the Lord”
“In it to End it”
“He knows the plans He has for us!”

What do all these things have in common?

They are all words on a page and nothing more.

Day and night these words could be written and spoken and yet amount to absolutely nothing. Many Christians speak Christianese, know all the right things to read, quote, re-tweet, Instagram, and blog yet those same people never leave their social media to put these faith claims into action.

Think of it this way…

Repeat the following phrase 10 times in a row (yes 10 times):

I’m hungry

Did food appear in front of you? Did your stomach magically become full? If others were around you, did they learn anything about you? Did they believe you were hungry? Did they bring you food? Did they ask you if you wanted to go get food?

The point to all of this is that merely saying “I’m hungry” does not change your circumstances. Indeed, if you are hungry then an action must take place in order to resolve that issue. Even if someone brings you food…you still have to eat it.

So it is with Christians who merely profess Jesus but their lives do not match up. While words from these individuals may be truthful and encouraging to those who read it, they do no credit to the person’s character who does not believe them or live them out. When a person professes something and then does not follow through with it themselves, they are labeled hypocrites and liars.

If an emphatic person claims that exercise is the best way to become a happy person …yet has never exercised or does not believe the words that come out of their own mouth, that sales-person will not be successful.

Again, this is the lot for Christians that talk the talk, but do not walk the walk. The “talking” Christians are the ones that are on the news and the ones that the world rejects more readily.

“Why should I believe him/her? They are just quoting verses legalistically…and their lives don’t even reflect what they are saying! I know that he/she has broken all the commandments they are trying to cram down my throat!”

Followers of Christ, that not only claim and profess Christ is the Lord with their mouths, but also LIVE out this faith, are effective Christians. All the rest are wearing a mask, and they may not even know it.

So get rid of all uncleanness and the rampant outgrowth of wickedness, and in a humble (gentle, modest) spirit receive and welcome the Word which implanted and rooted [in your hearts] contains the power to save your souls. But be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth]. (James 1:21-22 AMP)

If we know and receive the Word, which is Jesus Christ, and then reject Him with our actions…it is not something we can get away with for long

Cursed be he who does the work of the Lord negligently [with slackness, deceitfully]; and cursed be he who keeps back his sword from blood [in executing judgment pronounced by the Lord]. (Jeremiah 48:10 AMP)

Doing the work of the Lord (teaching others to be disciples), requires action and sacrifice. It is not something that Christians can do with a lazy attitude. The reason God is holding back his wrath and not judging the earth, is because He is patiently waiting for the last person that will ever accept His salvation, to be reached by one of us.

That person could be your neighbor…or someone you see everyday.

Take off the Mask, get off the “Jesus Bandwagon” and walk in spirit and truth. Join the REAL mission. KNOW Jesus and DO what it is that causes others to recognize that we belong to Him.

Love requires more than words.

It requires choices.

It requires actions.

It requires a real face, a real person, a real passion, and a real desire for Jesus.
