And said, Truly I say to you, unless you repent (change, turn about) and become like little children [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving], you can never enter the kingdom of heaven [at all].
Whoever will humble himself therefore and become like this little child [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving] is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. -Matthew 18:3-4
There are thousands of theological debates raging in the world. Each one trying to prove something different, yet they all boil down to the same two things: God exists, or God doesn’t exist.
The truth of the matter is, people don’t really have an excuse to believe that God doesn’t exist.
Romans 1:20 states:
For ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature and attributes, that is, His eternal power and divinity, have been made intelligible and clearly discernible in and through the things that have been made (His handiworks). So [men] are without excuse [altogether without any defense or justification]
What people are really arguing is whether they have the right to choose to reject God and lead sinful lives. What this world wants, is for the Godly people to accept, condone, and coexist with sin. This world wants the stamp of approval of the Godly, while completely rejecting truth. To put it simply, the desires of this world are one giant oxymoron.
World: “I want to live my own life”
God: “How will you do that without the air I give you to breathe? I am the way, the truth, and the life you seek.”
World: “I want to be successful and rich, and comfortable”
God: “Who do you think made the planet you live on? I can give you peace. I am peace”
World: “I want to live forever and stop death”
God: “I already did that. All you have to do is follow me”
At the end of the day, when we boil it down, every desire we seek out, everything we long for, has always been Christ. He is everything this planet has hoped for and cried out for since the beginning of time. It is that simple.
When Jesus said that those who want to enter His kingdom must have a child-like faith, it is not because people need to revert and forget wisdom, and understanding, and growing up spiritually, it is that we need to forget the things of this world. We need to forget how to doubt God, how to distrust God, how to deny God, and how to question God. A young child, doesn’t question a good parent. They simply trust that no matter what “daddy will catch me” and they jump. Yes it is important to understand salvation. Yes it is important to know theology and big words to describe our faith, but it is MORE important that we first understand the little things and the simple things.
Jesus is Love. Jesus is Life. Jesus is Everything.
Let’s understand those things before we worry about our Pharisaical debates.
